There’s something pretty amazing about the New Year. It’s not necessarily the sparkly cocktail dresses or the hype around finding an overpriced party. But the fact that spirits are elevated, people are reflecting and planning; contemplating how they can improve and setting goals for the upcoming year. The general sentiment is hopeful and constructive and it’s inspiring to recognize how this, to a large degree, is a collective experience.
It’s been helpful for us to step back and look at the New Year tradition in this light, allowing the day to act as a reminder to pause and re-identify our intention before moving ahead. The truth is, we have the choice to treat every week or every day in this same way, because in the end, it’s really just another day. Every action we take, thought we think or word we say has some kind of effect. Each of these actions make an imprint and tie together, moment after moment, day after day, year after year. By exercising awareness of this, we can make intentional decisions about how we shape ourselves and ultimately how we can influence the world around us.
With that in mind, our resolution is to spend less time focusing on what others are doing and more time focusing on what we stand for and taking actions based on that. The products we design and put into the world are a reflection of those values. Life moves quickly and it can be tough to stay focused, but the only truly authentic expression comes from being connected to who we are and what we stand for as an individual in our global community.
